Dr. Kavita Malhotra
OD, FCOVD
Dr. Kavita Malhotra has been in private practice in Vienna, Virginia since 2001. Prior to moving to the metro Washington DC area and opening a behavioral optometry practice she served on the faculty of SUNY College of Optometry and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in the Pediatrics and Binocular Vision Department. Dr. Malhotra graduated from SUNY College of Optometry, where she also completed a residency in Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation. Dr Malhotra, a Fellow of COVD, has lectured at several Optometric meetings. She has also led numerous seminars for Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech and Language specialist, and parent support groups on the impact of vision on function. Currently she serves on the International Examination and Certification board, which administers fellowship credentialing of doctors and certification of therapists.
In her practice Dr Malhotra sees patients from infants to adults with a wide variety of problems ranging from strabismus, amblyopia, learning related vision problems, developmental delays to traumatic brain injury and post-concussion syndrome. She has a holistic approach to care combining lenses, prisms, vision therapy, rehabilitation, and nutrition to improve overall function. Dr. Malhotra enjoys the analytical and creative aspect of Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation, adapting and even creating new therapy procedures to meet her patient’s needs.
Julie (Jules) Petteruto
BA, COVT, ABOC, NCLEC
Julie (Jules) Petteruto was born and raised in Southern California. She developed her passion for helping others after she benefitted from vision therapy when she was 9 years old. Jules has been a vision therapist at the Center for Vision Development Optometry, Inc. in Pasadena California with Dr. Derek Tong, O.D., F.C.O.V.D., F.N.O.R.A., F.A.A.O. since 2005.
In 2007 she received her certification as an Optometric Vision Therapist. In 2014, she received the Lora McGraw Award for excellence in vision therapy. In 2017, Jules was honored as the COVT of the year at COVD. Jules completed her Bachelor of Arts in Childhood Moral and Social Development, Social Services from the United States Institute of Language and Clerical Studies. Jules serves as a mentor for the Certified Optometric Vision Therapist (COVT) process. She has lectured and presented workshops for optometric meetings in the United States and other countries and loves teaching others of the art of vision therapy.
She currently serves as the moderator of the Tuesday Think Tank, a weekly vision therapy zoom meeting, where she and Dr. Malhotra met and discovered their shared passion for Vision Therapy and executive function skills. She also enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
